Joseph’s Adopted Son, (and Our Place in This)
Jesus was adopted by Joseph,
(which may or may not come as news to you)
What it means is more important than you think, (depending on how important you think lineage, and paperwork is)
It was in a dream that Joseph was told to do this, to which he had no apparent objections. He appears to have followed through with gladness.
He (Joseph) named the newborn Jesus (though in those days it was the role of the mother to name her child)
The infant was grafted into the family tree: of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Perez, Boaz and Jesse, Rahab, Ruth, David and Ahaz…
(42 generations of family)
All beginning with a dream….
For us it is a dream we may not have sought out and may well take for granted; that we are part of God’s family.
It comes by adoption, that God loves us all, just as we are,
without our asking.
“In the fullness of time God sent his son, born of a woman, born under the law,in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children of God, so that we are no longer slaves to the law but are heirs of the kingdom through our adoption in Jesus Christ.” Galatians 4:4-5
