Palm Sunday humility

‘Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in the Holy place?

Those who have clean hands and pure hearts; who do not lift up their souls to what is false…”                                                                                                       Psalm 24

Age after age

your children of dust

make their way

to holy places

to seek you,

yet you are closer than

hands or feet.

In temples and churches

people come to seek your way

but what you look for

is the well being of your children.

… who of us has clean hands

and hearts pure enough to be tested by you?

If we have stretched out our hands in greed or envy, pride or resentment,

You forgive the sin of all those who turn

to you in sincerity. You cleanse the penitent

and lift up the unworthy.

Set our course according to your word;

give us new strength

to follow on your way

that we may ascend

the hill of the Lord

to be by your side

in the time of trial.
