“When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”
There are no walls thick enough
to block the entry of the Risen Christ
into a human heart;
no locks strong enough to resist God’s love.
Jesus entered the
safe room the disciples had
created at the center of their fears.
Jesus is no apparition
who pops in for a visit
to wish the disciples well.
His is a spiritual body and a transformed body,
not purely spiritual or physical,
but a unique personal identity.
The resurrected Christ who passes through locked doors
is the same one who shows the disciples his hands and his side.
Jesus comes into our locked rooms,
not just to visit,
but bearing gifts to heal a hurting, hostile world.
