Lost & Found
Isn’t it great to be found?
Remember when, as a child, you played hide & seek?
When you hid- you sure didn’t want to stay hidden forever, did you?
(How boring that would be.) You’d wiggle your toes, maybe,
to be noticed, then found. Or maybe you’d sneeze, or giggle.
Either way, the joy in playing the game was at the end; when you’d be caught,
no longer alone by yourself, stuffed in the back of a musty old closet.
It is in our very lostness, and not in our already being found,
that most commends us to the mercy and love of God in Christ.
If it brings God joy to seek and find the lost,
then how thankful I am to be found!
Jesus told this parable: “Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’
